Kansas City is known for its reliable and affordable electric and natural gas service. There are numerous electric and gas companies serving the Kansas City area. Municipalities or special water districts supply water while area municipalities provide sewer services. Platte County’s utility partners offer services at competitive rates. Each also offers economic incentive rates to large users that meet certain criteria.
Electrical service is provided by:
Kansas City Power & Light has a generating capacity of 2,992 MW and serves the following communities: Houston Lake, Kansas City (south of Tiffany Springs exit & I-29), Lake Waukomis, Northmoor, Parkville, Platte Woods, Riverside, and Weatherby Lake.
Platte/Clay Electric Cooperative has a generating capacity of 3,200 MW and serves the unincorporated areas of Platte County.
Natural gas is provided by:
Missouri Gas Energy distributes from their supply from Williams Natural Gas and Panhandle Eastern Corp. through distribution mains that range from 2″ to 12″ and serve the following communities: Camden Point, Dearborn, Edgerton, Houston Lake, Kansas City, Lake Waukomis, Northmoor, Parkville, Platte Woods, Riverside and Weatherby Lake.
Empire Gas District distributes their supply from Williams Natural Gas through distribution mains of 4″ and serves the following communities: Platte City, Tracy, and Weston.
Telecommunications
Kansas City’s overall telecommunications infrastructure is highly advanced, reliable, robust and redundant.
Telecommunications service is provided by:
AT&T serves the following communities: Farley, Houston Lake, Kansas City (south of 112th street), Lake Waukomis, Northmoor, Parkville, Platte Woods, Riverside and Weatherby Lake.
Century Link Telephone’s local service serves the following communities: Camden Point, Dearborn, Edgerton, Ferrelview, Iatan, Kansas City (north of 112th street), Platte City, Ridgely, Tracy, & Weston.
Unite offers services in unincorporated parts of Platte County as well as Platte City, Ferrelview and the KCI Corridor. Because Unite is a new provider of services, its service territory as noted above is expanding and may not be completely current here.
Water/Sewer Services
Platte County communities have adequate water supplies and wastewater treatment capacity to meet the needs of new residential, commercial and industrial users. City of Kansas City Water serves most of Platte County, while Missouri American Water Services serves residents in some of our smaller communities including Parkville, Riverside and Weston.
