Our Story

It Began With A Vision…The Platte County Economic Development Council (PCEDC) was incorporated on June 20, 1988, as a nonprofit organization to promote economic development in Platte County, Missouri. It began as a partnership between public and private sectors with 61 members.  Today, the PCEDC has over 130 investor organizations, 27 of which are the original investors.

…That Evolved Into A String Of Successes…Since the PCEDC opened its doors more than two decades ago, Platte County has experienced tremendous increases in growth, jobs and investment in the community. In 1996 our efforts were recognized and honored by the state of Missouri when the PCEDC was awarded the first ever Missouri Governor’s Achievement Award for Economic Development.

PCEDC Achievement Highlights:

Since 1991, the Platte County EDC has assisted 130 Location Projects with an assessed total value of over $350 million. As of September, 2010, these companies employed over 10,500 people who contribute $1.2 million a year to our county in sales tax and $5 million per year to our school districts in personal and residential property taxes.

But that’s just the beginning. To date, PCEDC contributions to the health of Platte County include:

* 8,000 new jobs…when eight of the top ten largest employers located to Platte County (since 1989).

* 21% increase in employment….between 1997-2009.

* 45% increase in salary and wages.

* Increase property valuation…rising from $612.9 million in 1990 to over $2.3 billion in 2010.

*Increase in retail sales…leaping from $321 million in 1990 to over $1.37  billion in 2010.
