Harley Davidson Concessions Pass

Harley-Davidson’s two labor unions ratified a new seven-year agreement intended to save the company about $15 million, which will take effect August 1st and will be implemented in phases. The first phase will include putting in a new standardized production operating system. In August of 2012, 145 of Harley’s full-time jobs will be replaced with 145 flexible positions, which will work “part-time on an as-needed basis,” according to Harley-Davidson’s website.

Harley CEO Keith Wandell is quoted as saying, “Together with our unions, Harley-Davidson is making the necessary changes across all our production facilities to succeed in a competitive, global marketplace.”

Platte County Commission Approves Temporary Moritorium for Building Permit Fees

During the February 28,2011 County Commission Administrative Session, the Platte County Commission voted unanimously to approve a temporary moratorium for all building permit fees associated with new residential and agricultural construction. The moritorium begins March 1st and will terminate August 31st unless the $45,000 fee amount is reached first. People seeking new construction are still required to obtain building permits prior to construction and to complete the necessary inspections. 3rd Annual Sixth Congressional District Small Business Expo

Congressman Sam Graves will host the Small Business Expo on March 21, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Kansas City Regional Police Training Academy, located at 6885 NE Pleasant Valley Road. Graves to Head Small Business Committee

In December, Congressman Sam Graves was named Chairman of the House Small Business Committee. He has served as the Ranking Member of the Committee since 2009. He has also previously served as a Ranking Member on the Transportation sub-committee for Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management. In 2005, Graves was the Chairman for the Rural Enterprises, Agriculture and Technology Subcommittee of the Small Business Committee and a Deputy Whip. Congressman Graves feels that, “Government does not create jobs, but it can help set the table for economic growth with the right policies.
